iSCSI is a protocol for IP-based SANs that allows
companies to maintain existing Ethernet infrastructures, use an
existing knowledge base and bring storage to the IP network. Defined as
Internet SCSI, or SCSI over IP this protocol transports SCSI commands
over a TCP/IP protocol. iSCSI allows SCSI devices to be set up on an IP
SAN and engage with other SCSI storage devices as if they were
direct-attached devices.
iSCSI can provide a high-speed, low-cost, long-distance storage
solution for Web sites, service providers, Enterprises, and other
organizations.
ATTO iPBridge offers
important benefits:
-
Uses
existing IT expertise ¡V most users have both IP and SCSI
knowledge already in-house, reducing the need to hire
new talent.
-
Uses
existing stable and familiar infrastructure ¡V enables
sharing of SCSI storage devices without deploying a new
network infrastructure. Storage can now be brought into the IP
network.
-
Leverages
proven, well known, well understood IP and SCSI technology
including command sets, routing, quality
of service and security.
-
Provides
investment protection for IP managers who desire to network
their existing SCSI products together.
-
Improves
storage network distances through IP infrastructure access
using the iSCSI protocol.
